What is Walking Football

Walking Football is a small-sided ball game, typically played with six players on each team. It shares similarities with standard five-a-side football, such as the rule that the ball must not go above head height. However, the defining characteristic—as the name suggests—is that running or jogging is strictly prohibited, whether on or off the ball; players may walk briskly, but one foot must remain in contact with the ground at all times. Walking Football is especially popular among older adults and those seeking a less physically demanding way to enjoy football, making it accessible to a wider range of participants. The minimal physical contact and focus on skill and teamwork over speed create a friendly and inclusive environment.

Another big difference that makes it a safer sport, especially for those with health conditions, is that it is a non-contact sport. Although tackling is allowed, this must be done with no contact.

If you have played football before, the skills you learned will come flooding back to you. If you have not played football before you will learn new skills.

Because you are not allowed to run you will improve the accuracy of your passing and learn to pass and move more effectively, balance will improve.

Although the pace is slower, don't be fooled in to thinking that it is not challenging. Walking Football is an excellent way of staying fit and healthy. You will always feel as if you have had a good workout.
